Northwest Internet's network problems

In the past week Northwest Internet encountered network difficulties. We felt it was important to let you know what's been going on and why you've been having problems with your Internet connections.

Tuesday at 4:00 pm we took our primary authentication server offline to install some additional RAM. This server also handles all the mail that goes through Northwest Internet. This should have been a short process, but unfortunately the server rejected the new memory. At 7:00 pm we put the old RAM back into the server in order to bring it back online.

Late Tuesday evening, webpage retrieval functions were offline, until the problem was discovered at 9:00 am Wednesday morning.

Also on Wednesday morning, a secondary server was set up for authenticating passwords. Some accounts did not make the transfer properly, and had to be recreated from scratch on the new (secondary) authentication server.

Wednesday Evening around 9:00 pm our connection to Wolfe.net (one of our Internet providers) went down. The technicians were able to bring the connection back up around 11:15 pm.

On Thursday we received a replacement memory module for our primary authentication server. There were some minor complications, but we were able to bring the server up and online around 1:00 pm.

Friday morning our connection to Northwest-Telephone (our other Internet provider) went down. We did some rerouting on our network, and got things running around 11:00 am.

As you can see, we've had our hands full this last week. We would like to thank you all for your patience with us during these recent problems. Everything is up and running properly and we don't expect any further difficulties. If you have any questions about this please email us at support@nwinternet.com or call 509.663.5700 or 509.765.9640

"Love Bug" Virus Warning

Update: If your computer has contracted the "Love Bug" McAfee.com now has a fix. You will find all the information you will need to scan and remove the virus from your computer.

Various computer agencies have reported the emergence of a new virus in the past week. This virus is propogated through email, and possibly through other delivery methods as well. The email will appear to come from somebody you know. The address will be pulled directly from your address book. The Email has a subject line of "ILOVEYOU" and has a file attachment named "LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.vbs". Do NOT open this attachment! If you receive this message, you should delete it immediately.

The virus wreaks havoc with several different file formats on the computer. It will rename various files which exist on your computer and make them carriers of the virus. It will also make changes to the systems registry, and change the default files the registry loads upon boot-up. "ILOVEYOU" is also extremely prolific....it will attempt to mail copies of itself to members of your address book if executed.

If you would like to know more about this virus the BBC was the first to have the story. Fox News.com, CNN.com, and MSNBC.com all have good stories on the virus as well. McAfee.com now has a fix for it.
