Our Rich Heritage

The Idle Hour Saloon building was erected in 1906 and in 1910 it was moved two blocks east to its present location.

Over the years the building housed many different taverns.  People in Quincy still remember "B" Street Tavern, "Spud Shed" Tavern, "Kids" Tavern, and the "Spud Shed" Tavern & Deli.  During prohibition it was "Nibbs Confectionery".

The dining area was added to the original structure back in 1927 and was used as the living area for the owners.  The back area was added at the same time and was the "Pool Hall" area.

The businesses were always a place to sip a cold beer and play pool, along with talking over farming concerns of the day.

During the early 1970s the walls were removed, opening up the dining area to expand the business.  The old tavern housed a 53-foot "L"-shaped bar and three pool tables.  People in town still remember the "Pool Teams" from the tavern.  They never lost a league championship.

We operated the "Spud Shed" Tavern and Deli for ten years.  Then in 1995 we decided to take a different direction and closed the tavern.
